Playne - The V.C. Dairy Farm - Mr J.B. Van der Weyer and Lord Cardross until lately carried on in partnership the VC Dairy Farm situated at Ngongo, some 12 miles from Nairobi. The farm, established in 1906, and bought from Mr J.T. Oulton, is about 670 acres, with a good water supply from the Mbagathi River, which borders the property for 2000 yards. There is plenty of timber and large, open plains, the latter having recently been drained. ........ The dairy (in charge of a European dairymaid) is built of stone and contains all the latest utensils. ....... Cheese is a speciality and about 200 lbs. per month are turned out, whilst about 22 lbs. of butter are made per week. ......... The Red Poll bull ..... is named "Blush V", and was bred by Lord Cranworth, of Suffolk, England. ......... Lord Cardross came to BEA in 1904 and Mr Van der Weyer in 1905. Each owns 10000 acres of land in the Kenia District.
