Telegraph - 26/9/2003 - Allan Scott Ker, formerly of Nairobi, Kenya since 1911, peacefully on 10 September 2003 at Watford, aged 96. Adored father of Diana, father-in-law of Richard and grandpa of Claire and Alexander, husband of the late Norah. An all-round sportsman and an excellent shot. He captained and coached Kenya's Inter-Colonial small-bore rifles team, winning the open sight section from 1950-57. A keen amateur photographer and mountaineer who climbed the East African mountains. In 1943 he was a member of the ninth party to climb Mount Kenya. They discovered the flag left by the escaped Italian prisoners of war. He was an accountant with Cable and Wireless before becoming a professional safari guide in the 60s and 70s. In retirement he enjoyed his bee keeping and his garden.
