Penelope Deubel: DOUGLAS MANFRED MEGSON (b. 04.11.1895 - d. 18.03.1938) is thought to have bought a farm in the TZ Elgon area in 1920 but returned to England before coming back later in 1925. On the ship he met a young lady called Florence Margaret (Madge) Alice Hill Burnell. They were married on 15.09.1925 in the Elgon (now Kiminini ) St. John’s Church. They bought and lived on one of the family farms - “Elgon Dacre”, “Scapa” or “Katalina" quite which is not clear, but when Douglas died his probate gives him as owner of Elgon Dacre.
They had six children :
- PETER Douglas Hill (b. 05.08.1926 : d. 14.09.1994)
- PHILIP, died at birth (burried in Kitale, same cemetery as Jeremy where also Madge and Crickey’s ashes are scattered, under a big tree)
- JEREMY (Jerry) Forrest Hill, (b. 05..02.1931 : d. 13.05.1975) attended Kitale Primary School until moving to Nairobi in 1944 and going to secondary school at the « Prince of Wales » Eventually farmed in the Cherenganis. Died in Kenya
- CHRISTOPHER (Cricky) Roland Hill, (b. 10.08.1933 : d. 14.11. 1994) …same cursus as his brother (see above) but sold the farm and went to the USA. Died in England
- BARRY Manfred Hill (b. 10.05. 1935) …same cursus as his brothers but did not farm. Joined EA Airways then went to England, still alive (2020), living on Lewis Island, Scotland
- LYNETTE Margaret Hill (b. 31.01.1938) attended Kitale Primary School, Kenya High School and the Royal Ballet School in England. Still alive (2020) and living in France
