General Information:
He brought with him from Cape Town many horses and cows and several vehicles, and had a special train from Mombasa to Londiani. Everything was then detrained and the party went on by road to the Uasin Gishu Plateau. It took more than two weeks to travell the 64 miles, and unfortunately every one of his horses and cows died on this trip, or shortly afterwards, from horse-sickness, lymphangitis or East Coast Fever. He built the first dipping tank on the Plateau, but by the time it was finished his last cow had died. He gave up farming, started a building and contractor's business, and in 1913 built the first permanent building in Eldoret, the Standard Bank of South Africa.
