Heather Sowerby Ronald went out to Kenya in 1928 to stay with Stan & Lorna Hitch (Lorna was Ronald's brother) and help on the farm Stan was managing. Charlotte Hitch letter 28 Dec 1929 After his bro-in-law was dismissed from the farm Ronald got a job with Bobbie Maxwell in Kisumu, a retired marine engineer of about 50 who was starting a gold mine. He had only been out in Kenya for a few months but tried to be the complete Kenya settler and was much more colonial and hearty than anyone else. They will live right in the blue near the Tanganyika border, 60 miles from the nearest town Kisii, and nowhere near a road. The salary is good and Ronald will be able to save mainly all his money because there is nothing to spend it on.
