General Information:

Curtis - p. 146 - 'A Trading Safari to Marsabit in 1907' - 'There were 4 Roy brothers, grandsons of an Angus shipowner, brought up in London by their widowed mother. The eldest, Lindsay, was a marine engineer who later became a Kenya coffee farmer and partner in the firm of Bullows and Roy. Frederick, the second brother, served in the Boer War and couldn't settle down in England after it. He worked as a lumberjack in Canada and a cowboy in the United States, where he lost an eye from the kick of a horse. He returned to England and eventually followed the example of his younger brother Alec in coming out to Kenya to join the Boma Trading Company. The other brother, Charles, nicknamed Carl by his brothers because he had qualified in Germany, was a research chemist: he never visited Kenya. But for a period after WW1 the first 3 all worked Kyuna Farm at Spring Valley together. Fred Roy worked for the Boma Trading Co. from 1907, when he was 26, until 1914. Some of his diaries, photographs and letters from that period survive. He later became an electrical engineer and a partner in the Nairobi firm of Lochhead, Moore and Roy, electrical and mechanical engineers.
Macmillan - 1930 - Lochhead, Moore and Roy Ltd., Mechanical and Electrical Engineers - The business was started in 1921 by Messrs. J. Lochhead and J.A. Moore, who conducted it under the style of Lochhead and Moore until 1924, when they were joined in partnership by Mr F. Roy and the firm was formed into a limited liability company.
