OP - Issue 84, October 2002 - Obituary - Cyril Stanley Widgery, MBE, died on 20 February 2002 in Nairobi, after a heart attack, aged 79 years. Born in Kampala, educated at Pembroke House (Kenya), in England, and at Rhodes University (South Africa), Uganda Government 1945-73, latterly Secretary, Public Service and Judicial Service Commissions. Ordered to leave Uganda by the Amin Government in 1973, moved with his widowed mother, Elisabeth Widgery, to Nairobi (where Mrs Widgery later died aged 100), Cyril worked at the British High Commission in Nairobi from 1973 until retiring in 1987 when (like his late father, who also served in the Uganda Govt. service) he was awarded the MBE. A keen tennis player for many years and a long-time member of the Uganda Kobs.
