Uganda Journal - Vol. 21, No. 1 - Early Days in Kampala by W.E. Hoyle - …. Until about 1906 the guardianship of the Kabaka was in the hands of that very fine chief of Kyagwe, Hamu Mukasa, and then a European tutor, Mr John Sturrock, a Scotsman, took charge of him. He was an Oxford University man and keen on football. He resided in the Lubiri, and in my house adjoining the Uganda Company Stores I often, on a quiet evening, heard the strains of his bagpipes across the valley. He had a football ground made within the Lubiri on which he taught the Baganda youth, including the Kabaka, the rules of the game. ……..
