General Information:
Horizon - Kenton College - Once a term Dr. van Someren, then a dentist in Nairobi (later curator of the Coryndon Museum) visited Kenton to examine our teeth. He had a drill that was driven by a foot pedal and I defy anyone to think up a worse form of torture than that which V.G. van Someren meted out via his foot pedal and hand manipulated drill on a decayed back tooth! ........ he also talked about butterflies in the evening.
KAD 1922 - Govt. Dental Surgeon. - Hon. Sec. - EA and Uganda Natural History Society
Red 25 - Editor & Hon. Secretary, EA and Uganda Natural History Society
Red 22 - Editor and Hon. Secretary, East Africa and Uganda Natural History Society, Nairobi
Trans Nzoia Scrap Book - 'Butterfly and Moth Collecting in the Trans Nzoia' - ….. Dr Van Someren in Nairobi who was the founder and then curator of the Coryndon Museum. He is still very active and is, perhaps, the greatest naturalist in Eastern Africa, both in ornithology and entomology. He is now retired at Karen, but until a few years ago we went on many safaris together; I [T.H.E. Jackson] have learnt more from him than any other person. He was the inventor of the famous CHARAXES trap, a complication of strings, a bottom board and mosquito netting which, baited with fermented banana, will catch most of the Charaxes in the area in which it is placed.
