He was a Lieutenant in the Glider Pilot Regiment A.A.C. (Air Army Corps) and was section commander of D Squadron. His service number was 255204. He took part in Operation Market Garden and was one of only a few to make it to the bridge at Arnhem.He was captured at Arnhem. In Brummen he and five of his colleagues were shot by a German guard when two officers attempted to escape from the truck.
Buried 23 Sept 1944 • Enschede Eastern General Cemetery, Holland.
His name is inscribed on the war memorial in the village of Needingworth, Cambridgeshire, and he is also commemorated in the local church, St John the Baptist.
