Keen sportsman. His initiative and enthusiasm led in no small way to the formation of the Uganda Kobs Cricket Club.

East Africa & Rhodesia - 16/4/53 - Mr Charles Willmott, CBE,  whose death in Kenya is reported, first went to Uganda in 1907 as a surveyor and in the following year became an assistant engineer in the PWD of which department he was director from 1933 until he went to Eritrea in 1941 at the instance of Sir Philip Mitchell to become chairman of the Anglo-American council controlling the important military base at Asmara. Soon afterwards he was also made Controller of Works and Transport for Eritrea. Returning to Kenya at the end of the war, he bought a farm at Subukia. In Uganda he was prominent in all sporting activities, and was chairman of many clubs and committees.
