Breckenridge - { a most unhappy childhood - mutual dislike of stepfather Blayney Percival who beat him and unhappy early schooling} …….." Looking back on my childhood I feel I missed a golden opportunity to learn more about Africa and its people. Unfortunately I was so mixed up that I spent most of the time resenting life. After school at the age of 15 he went to work on his uncle Philip Percival's farm; later worked for George Blowers a Kima and then went to Kakamega during the gold rush and worked in several mines there. Next job was for Shell at Nairobi Airport refuelling planes later went to Mombasa and worked in the docks finally joining the police after his brother Punch in 1937. Travelled to UK in 1938 and joined the Army, served in East Africa and Burma during WW2 and after the war bought a farm at Moiben
