Dave Lichtenstein: John Bieneman, one of our “younger” Masters, was at the DOYS from 1954-1964. He was Assistant Housemaster of Delamere (and this is where my first contact with him occurred) before becoming founding Housemaster of James. He was also Physics Master, School rugby coach and OIC Sea Cadets. He moved to Cherhill in Wiltshire spending the remaining days of his life, there He was only 83 when he died although he outlived his wife Stella who passed away in 1998. I remembered John Bieneman very well as he was both my Assistant Housemaster (Delamere) and my physics teacher. He was originally Russian.
