Ancestry Major Walker was the third son of the late Sir James Robert Walker, of Sand Hutton. He joined the 1st Life Guards in 1891, served with the Imperial Yeomanry in the South African War, and later held a commission in the West Riding Horse Artillery. He was a member of the Gimcrack Club and York Race Committee, and chairman of the York County Stand Committee. His interest in local affairs was close and active.
He had been a member of Malton Urban Council since 1923, and chairman for many years of the Malton and Norton Joint Fire Brigade Committee. He was also Chairman of Malton Constitutional Club and a member of the Malton bench of magistrates. He always showed the keenest concern in Old Malton, and was president of the Memorial Hall and other local institutions. Throughout his life he was devoted to cricket. He was president of Malton Cricket Club. In his younger days he was no mean exponent of the game. Major Walker was also interested in agriculture. and was a prominent member and vice-president of Malton Agricultural Society. In 1904 he married Miss M. A. Wentworth. For some vears he had been a churchwarden at St. Mary's Church, Old Malton.
