First travelled to Kenya on M.V. Llangibby Castle, Jan. 1932 together with, in particular, CMS Missionary Group of Rev. Mick Unwin, Nairobi; Bush, Maseno, Kavirondo; Bowers (not ordained) to Budu, Uganda; also two brothers Lloyd (Kenya); Lieut. Col. D.C. Percy-Smith of Imatong fame and others. Train from Mombasa to Eldoret, then car to Kitale as a pupil, to small coffee plantation on the Cherangani Road. Kenya Defence Force, 1932-35. Interests - Anthropology/Prehistory. July 1935 - August 1936 working in Kakamega and Goldfields. After 1936 to UK, then West Africa, returning to Kenya in 1940 with the Gold Coast Regt., RWAFF. Service in Nairobi, Thika, N.F.D., Italian Somaliland and Abyssinia. In 1948 returned to EA to Uganda as District Officer. Numerous holiday and archaeological (L.S.B. Leakey) visits to Kitale, Kaptagat, Nakuru, Nairobi, Mombasa. Left Uganda in 1959 to settle in UK. Contributor to learned journals on EA history, prehistory etc., including EA Annual, EA Standard, EA Literature Bureau. Member of Council for British Institute in Eastern Africa 1961-93.
