Son of William Henry Bradbury, gaoler, b. 1838, and Ann Priscilla Hellein b. 1847. One of ten children, he grew up in Bellary. He was baptised in Bangalore 2 Dec 1881. William's father James was English and was a gunner in the East India Company's Horse Artillery and his mother Catherine Williams, born about 1818, was Anglo-Indian. Ann's father William Helllein, born 1806, was Assistant Apothecary 48th Madras NI, suggesting he was Anglo-Indian. Ann's mother, Elizabeth Delang, born about 1829, was probably Anglo-Indian.
Ernest had planned to get married in India and was about to return there when he died.
