Gert Vanmarcke: Her parents Henri Van Bets (23 Sep 1871 Brussels-5 Jan 1952 Mombasa) and Justine Maes married in Brussels in 1890, after which between 1901 and 1911 they moved to Finchley, London, where in 1911 Henri was a butler, and daughters Jeanne (dressmaker) and Louise (hat maker) lived with them. Henri and Justine likely returned in 1922 to Belgium (potentially due to the ilness and later death of Justine's sister in 1922; or at least by 1934 when they lived again in Brussels). After Justine's death in 1948, on 27 September 1948 Henri moved to Kenya. He is buried in Mombasa Mbaraki cemetery under the name Bets.
Jeanne never married and moved from London to Kenya on 25 May 1934. On 4 June 1955 she moved to Australia together with her sister Louise (who had already arrived beforehand as a tourist on 26 May 1953). Jeanne at least lived until 1980 when she is listed on an electoral list.
