Ballymena Weekly Telegraph 29 June 1935 Staggering into a nursing home in the early hours of today with a gunshot wound in her head, Mimi Mrs Minnie Mercer fell unconscious after struggling to warn the staff of a tragedy at her home. The police (states a Reuters message) found that her two boys and two girls, ranging in ages between five and 10, had been shot dead with a revolver. Their mother had been suffering from cancer for some time and had been depressed. She is now in a critical condition. Mrs Mercer (says the Exchange) is the daughter of Mr Thomas McClure, a past president of the Caledonian Society, and one of the best known pioneer settlers in Kenya. Her husband is at present away working at the Miwani Sugar factory near Kisumu.
