KFA - In 1928 - in consultation with the Imperial Institute, imported pyrethrum seed and, in effect, started the industry on his farm at Bahati. Bovill - also involved in production of geranium oils. He ditributed pyrethrum seed to some of his neighbours and, in due course, formed a small committee, the parent of the Pyrethrum Board.
Today - The cultivation of pyrethrum flowers is a new and promising industry in Kenya. It was started in 1928 by Mr Gilbert Walker, who imported some Dalmatian seed and found it gave very good results on his farm near Nakuru.
East Africa & Rhodesia - 29/9/55 - Captain Gilbert Walker, the pioneer of the pyrethrum industry in Kenya, who has died in Nakuru at the age of 74, was a member of the Kenya Pyrethrum Board in 1939 and 1940. After successful experiments in growing the plant on his own farm he was a tower of strength in the expansion of the industry.
