General Information:
Eldoret - General Smuts sent a recommendation in his own handwriting should Mr Boshoff wish to obtain employment in EA - "Transvaal, 5 Nov, 1926 - This is to certify that Mr Alex Boshoff was one of my officers in the Boer War, that I have known him for the last 27 years and that he has always conducted himself bravely and as a gentleman. Several times wounded in the Boer War. In the Great War he incurred the hostility of the German authorities in German East Africa and rendered valuable assistance and information to me when in command of the British forces. I believe his independent attitude to the German regime led to the loss of the farm which had been given him. All through I have formed a very good opinion of him. - J. Smuts"
