Alexander - He is notorious for building a solid steel windsock on Marsabit airfield so that all strange pilots coming in to land prepare for a 30 knot headwind and come in much faster than they think!

Dusty - a well-known frontier character, who with his 5 daughters could not afford to live anywhere else.

Mervyn Maciel:  I first met him when he was D.O. at Mackinnon Road while I was stationed in Voi.    I remember hm as a great 'guy' who hated office work and would always try and get away on safari. He treated his staff well and they respected him. In Marsabit, they gave him the nickname  'Nencho'  which in the Boran language means lion. And a  lion he certainly could be at times.  He was South African and his wife (Kay) was the daughter of the one-time Accountant General in Kenya (Webster). He was a stickler for etiquette and,always carried a suit in his safari kit - just in case some V.I.P. turned up! Such was his character.   Great at putting his staff (both Goan and African) at ease by cracking jokes.   I got to know the family well and was close to them. His widow kept in touch with me until her death, so too one of his daughters (Carol).
