KAD 1922 - Working Committee Member, KAR Officers' Dinner ClubGethin - 'An Irishman called Brerton now appeared on the scene with a 36 ft. motor launch built by the Bergius Co., Glasgow, and started in competition with us [Gethin & Dawson] on the Kendu run. I knew Brerton in the KAR. He was fat and lazy, loved his food and drink and was scared stiff of being drowned in the Lake if caught in a storm. I had gone over to Kisumu to see Horace [Dawson] and was staying the night at the Dak, when Brerton came in late one evening, having been caught in the storm he hated. He arrived tired, frightened and fed up, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to approach him with an offer to buy his launch ...........' (Gethin's offer was accepted)
