Tom Lawrence: He was killed when a Vickers Valentia, serial 269, crashed approximately 80nm North East of Dodoma, fatally injuring three crew members and five passengers. There were four survivors (https://www.saairforce.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3110&start=405). On Friday 2nd Aug 1940, A Vickers Valentia (#269) 150 km (93.8 miles) crashed North East of Dodoma, fatally injuring three crew members and five passengers (https://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19400802-0).
According to Schoeman the Valentia was flying in bad weather and Bosman was going down to low level, possibly to get his bearings when the crash occurred (https://warriorsofthesky.co.za/colonel-bosman/). The SAAF suffered a heavy loss when one of the Vickers Valentia (# 269) of No.50 (SAAF) Squadron crashed during a transfer flight between Moshi and Dodoma (Tanzania). Only four of the twelve people on board survive. Among the missing is Captain Peter Ffytche-Hogg, seconded to the RAF in early 1940 to prepare for the South African deployment, and since appointed commander of the fighter detachments based in Kenya. Several technical staff (a rare commodity for SAAF) are also among the dead (http://www.checksix-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=276&p=1760783). Maj. H.H. Dugmore (EA Forces was killed. Others who died were SAAF -Capt. Peter John Fytch-Hogg (pilot) (SAAF). Lieut. A. McKellar, Lieut. Desmond Barton (SAAF), 2/Lt. Harry Allen (CWGC has initials J.A.) Clunie, Air Mech. S.L. Geyser, I.C. Mackenzie, and G.A. Nezar. There were four South African Forces survivors -Lieut. Bosman, Lieut. Murray, Lieut. Allum and A/Sergt. Smith (Roger Dugmore Correspondence 201118).
